The Challenge

Elysee Consulting is a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Consultancy launching their own company after many years honing their chops in the DE&I for Life Sciences space with a number of respected agencies. While I was Art Director at Owl’s Head Solutions, Elysee came to us in need of a visual identity, branded presentation deck, and website to launch their services for companies in the Life Sciences and BioHealth space.

The Solution

As the visual identity design lead for the project, I worked with the CEO to synthesize core values from the creative brief and company mission into a wordmark and accompanying brand toolkit that echoed the NYC-based CEO’s smart, sociable, personality, while relating to her clients ready to take real steps toward creating inclusive workplaces, and embrace practical roadmaps to get them there.

Reinforcing the Logo Letterforms

The client was presented with several strong options, and while selecting just one was difficult, the wordmark that won the day was a stenciled typeface, custom styled and sitting confidently atop a handsome geometric sans. Ultimately out client was won over by the stencil that reminded her of a beloved shop in her childhood home in Trinidad. A complete coincidence, as I wasn’t aware of the place, but the hometown vibe meshed perfectly with Elysee’s back to roots style and core belief in fostering the heartbeat of a company through the identity of the individual, where the sum becomes greater with the contributions of its unique parts.

Elysee Colophon

For social media, swag, and other applications that would benefit from the shorthand of a monogram avatar, the company initials of made a dashingly handsome pair, easily distinguished by the complementing typefaces and brand color backgrounds.

Color Kismet

To reflect the benefits of a diversified, multi-faceted workforce, I selected a color palette that covered an organic spectrum, then shifted each hue into unique build with color pairings used to emphasize the unexpected synergy gained from breaking away from the status quo.
